Local Climate Action

Our collective actions have the ability to slow climate change. We can do this through a concerted effort to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and capture atmospheric carbon in the soil. Land use, agriculture and soil carbon banking solutions have the capacity to remove more than one quarter of greenhouse gases from the atmosphere by 2050. We do this by increasing soil organic matter, localizing food production, practicing regenerative agriculture, composting and building food forests. Linkages between strategies ensure that progress in one area, quickly supports other areas. For additional information please visit www.drawdown.org and come to one of our upcoming neighborhood workshops. At the same time it is essential that each one of us stands up, speaks out and becomes a force for even more change. Supporting our plant communities and regenerating ecosystems will help, but science makes clear that we only have a few years to reduce greenhouse gas emissions to 0 or face catastrophic consequences. We are in a planetary climate emergency and our political and economic systems have failed us. We support the work and approach of groups like Extinction Rebellion that recognize we must put a halt to business as usual. Please help us advocate for life.
