Vanderbilt Avenue garden (in progress)

We began this garden late in 2013. In October we relaid the bluestone patio, removing a curb, changing the slope and opening joints to ensure rainwater was both absorbed and directed to planting beds. We also designed and built several cedar garden elements; a grill cabinet with a soapstone countertop, a compost bin and a new fence with an integrated vine rail. We generally recommend white cedar to our clients because it is a locally grown, long-lasting, renewable resource. The cedar will turn silver within two years and looks great unfinished.

This coming spring we will be completing the plantings and installing an irrigation system. Native plants will include Prairie dropseed, Red switchgrass, Ostrich and Cinnamon ferns, Solomon's seal, Blue-eyed grass, Coneflower, Thistles, Beebalm, Phlox, Columbine, Aster, Blazing star, Strawberry, Blueberry, Wildleeks and Viburnum. To this we will be adding Irises, Poppies, Hollyhocks, Crocosmia, Anemones, along with herbs.
